Push presents or "Baargoud" as we say in Dutch, are an old tradition. You give a golden jewel to the mother during the first weeks after she has given birth, as a token of respect and gratitude for bringing a baby into this world. 

Usually the jewel represents the child that has been born, or the family as a whole. There are many options with for example different birth stones or engravings.

Nowadays we also see a lovely tradition of giving the baby a little bracelet, with one birth charm. For every milestone in life the child is gifted a new charm that represents that moment.
